The Crystal Conspiracy
Forewarning: This is not your average fanfic. This is an extremely weird fanfic. It is
based off
the video game, Pokemon Crystal. The events that occur in this fanfic are not actually in
the
same order as they are in the game. Nevertheless, this may be the oddest fanfic I have
ever
written.

Cheerfully heading her way route 30, the pokemon trainer named Joey smiled. This was her
first
day of training and her totodile, Rand, was proving himself to be a great battler. Soon
she'd
become a great pokemon master, after she delivered the Mystery Egg she had received from
Mr.
Pokemon to Professor Elm back in New Bark Town. When he had called, the Professor sounded
worried about something while he told her to come back.
It was probably the way he had said, "Oh Joey, this is terrible! You have to come
back right
away!"
As she reached the outskirts of Cherrygrove City, she saw a young boy with long red hair
heading her way, seemingly in a hurry. Upon seeing her, he stopped and glared. Joey looked
at
him curiously then yelled, "Hey! I know you! You're the jerk who kicked me!"
He smirked darkly then replied, "And you're that weakling sissy girl who got a
pokemon from
Professor Elm. Well you're not the only one who received a pokemon from the old
coot."
"What do you mean? Professor Elm wouldn't give a pokemon to a jerk like you!"
she shouted
defensively.
Again he gave her that annoying smirk. "Are you so sure? Let's battle!"
Joey looked at him curiously again, then threw out Rand. He bounced bubbly before looking
at
his opponent, a chikorita that the long-haired boy had thrown out. She recognized it as
the one
from Professor Elm's lab, but unlike Rand, it hadn't gained a single level.
"All right, Rand, let's get this battle started right! Use your rage attack!"
she yelled.
Totodile studied his new opponent. The sight of the Chikorita confused him for a brief
moment.
Out of the Pidgeys, Rattatas, Sentrets and Geodudes he encountered today, this leaf
Pokemon
looked like the toughest one he had faced yet. Adapting instantly, he started his rage
attack.
"Chikorita, use your tackle attack now," said the mysterious trainer. The
competitors butted
heads. Chikorita stumbled back, while Rand maintained balance with its tail; his face
looked
more stern than before.
"Use your leaf throwing attack." Chikorita's expression instantly changed to
uncertainty. As if it
didn't know what leaves were.
"Use your leaf throw! You can wipe out water Pokemon easy that way!" Rand
decided not to
wait and rammed it again. Now, he got confidence, that this battle would not be any
different
from the rest of them.
"Good job, Rand! Keep it up!" Joey said. The latter trainer's face refused to
change.
"... This is pathetic. You're letting its attack get way too high. Growl it
down."
"Leer back at it, Rand!" They stared at each other's eyes, neither flinching.
Joey ordered another
method once more.
"All right, that's enough, let's scratch it!" Rand broke out the stance in a
split second, then ran
forward.
"Get your tackle right this time, Chikorita!"
The two heated competitors charged without slowing; looking as though they ran through
each
other. The two stopped dead in their tracks, Rand with his claws out, facing their
opponent
trainers. Nothing moved but Chikorita's leaf. It had been cut in half. The moment the
piece of
foliage touched the ground, Chikorita ran frantically in circles, it had obviously lost
its will to
fight.
"Yeah! We won, Rand!" Joey kneeled down and her pokemon came to her as she took
it in her
arms. "You're a great battler, you know?" The water pokemon croaked happily in
recognition.
The long-haired boy gave his now crying chikorita a cold stare, then returned it to its
pokeball
while mumbling, "Stupid weakling." Then out loud to me he said, "You only
won because my
pokemon was weak. I hate the weak. My name is Joey."
The female Joey stood up, holding her totodile in her arms. "You mean your name's
Joey as
well?"
He gave her a sidelong glance. "So what?" He began to walk away.
"Hey hold it!" she called, chasing after him. "You don't meet someone every
day who has the
same name as you."
He glared at her, then picked up his pace. "I don't care. Leave me alone."
Still keeping up with him, Joey said, "Come on! Don't you think it's ironic at
all?" She noticed
that they had crossed Cherrygrove and were now heading back the way that she had come.
"I don't believe in irony," the male Joey replied. "Now go away."
While following him, the two passed by a young boy with a rattata sitting by the grass. He
stopped them both with a shout.
"Hey you!" The female Joey stopped, but the male continued on, stopping a few
feet away. She
smiled to the young boy, who said, "I just lost my last battle, but maybe I'll win
against you!"
Joey grinned at the chance of another battle, while the other Joey only crossed his arms,
wondering to himself why he was even staying. With a confident smirk, the girl Joey asked,
"What's your name kid?"
The boy smiled then said, "My name's Joey!"
The long-haired male Joey gave a start, then turned around to see the girl with strange
blue hair
smirking at him. "Ok, that's a little bit out of the ordinary," he admitted
slowly.
"Come on! What are the chances of three people with the same name meeting on the same
day?"
she yelled stubbornly.
He turned his back again saying, "I'm sure it happens every day."
"Both of you are named Joey too?" The young Joey asked curiously.
"Yeah, isn't it weird?" Joey replied, holding Rand to her chest still.
The youngster Joey thought for himself for a few moments then said, "No not really. I
agree with
him," he jerked a finger to the red-haired Joey, "It probably happens every
day."
Joey glared at the two males with the same name. "What's wrong with you two?" As
she sighed
heavily, a huge shadow overcame the ground, causing all three Joeys to divert their gaze
to the
sky. As they watched in awe, a huge airship came to land in the field near them. After it
hovered
above the grass, a ladder came down from the side of it, and a man who looked about 20 or
21
climbed down. His hair was styled nicely, but was the most hideous shade of green any of
the
Joey's had ever seen. The female decided to herself that she'd get him some nice hair dye,
unnoticing her own indeterminate hair colour.
Once at ground level, he walked over to the three trainers and calmly asked, "Have
any of you
three seen a purple and black striped mew around here?" With the three Joeys still in
a state of
awe over the landing the giant air ship had made in such an inclosed space, he continued
on, "I
have been pursuing her for quite awhile, and have tracked her to this forest. Oh but my
dearest
apologies, I haven't introduced myself. Some call me Jirirudan, others refer to me by
Lawrence
the Third. But since my name was never spoken in the movie deal I did a few years back, no
one
is sure. You may call me Joey."
The last comment attracted the trio's attention, and they all sweatdropped. The female
Joey
laughed slightly then replied, "Nice to meet you, Joey. I'm Joey, and these two are
Joey and
Joey."
The Joey who came from the airship smiled and joined the other three with a sweatdrop of
his
own. But he quickly regained his calm composure as he asked, "So you haven't seen the
pokemon I search for?"
The original three Joeys shook their heads to indicate that they had not seen the mew he
was
after. The eerie-green haired Joey frowned, then sighed, "Alas, my search
continues." He gave
them a small bow, then returned to his air ship and flew away.
"What do you think of that?" Joey leered to the male Joeys. "You don't meet
three people with
the same name as you every day."
"Big deal," Both Joey and Joey retorted.
A voice distant in the forest called, "Joey use cut!" All three trainers watched
as a tree fell from
a typhlosion's quick slash. Then a trainer patted the pokemon named Joey on its back,
taking to
mind it's dangerous flames, then returned it to its pokeball. Then the trainer stepped
over the
fallen tree trunk, talking to the dratini that had itself wrapped across her shoulders.
"Soon we'll
be in New Bark Town, and we'll stop by and visit mum, then we'll head back to Kanto
again!"
The dratini gave a gleeful call and nuzzled the trainers face. Then she noticed the other
three
trainers watching her and stopped. Though at first glance one might have thought the
pokemon
trainer with the backwards cap was a guy, but she gave off a vibration that clearly stated
she was
a girl, despite the short black hair and boyish outfit.
With totodile still in her arms, Joey asked, "Is your name Joey?"
The newest trainer looked at the three trainers suspiciously and asked, "How did you
know?"
The youngster spoke up and said, "She's a crazy girl. She thinks that it's weird to
meet people
with the same name as you."
"Well it is weird!" the blue haired girl exclaimed. "I've already met three
other Joeys, and now I
find a new trainer with a pokemon named Joey!"
The eldest trainer sweatdropped at the situation. "That is kind of weird."
Gently putting Rand on the floor, Joey gave the tomboyish trainer a hug, much to her
surprise.
"Finally someone who understands me!"
Joey with the long red hair sighed then said, "I'm out of here," before heading
off.
"Can you let go of me?" the hugged Joey asked nervously. "I kind of need to
get back to
training." The dratini on her shoulder tapped the Joey with oddly coloured hair on
the head with
his tail.
"Oh, right, of course," Joey said while letting go. She picked up Rand again
then sighed.
"This is getting weird," the young Joey announced, picking up his rattata.
"I'm gonna go heal
him at the pokemon center." He squeaked under the looks that the two female trainers
gave him,
then ran off.
"I've had a really weird day," the totodile toting trainer sighed after sitting
down on the ground.
Stroking her dratini, the elder replied, "I can tell. I think it's a conspiracy that
so many Joeys
should meet."
Jumping up with a new enthusiasm in her eyes, Joey exclaimed, "Yes, a conspiracy!
I'll have to
inform the world about it!" She started to dash off in a random direction.
"Don't you plan on being a pokemon trainer first?" Joey asked, placing her hands
on her hips
while watching the other run off into the woods.
She stopped in her tracks. "That's right! Professor Elm told me to come back right
away!" She
then ran back to the elder Joey, still jogging in place as she said, "Are you really
a girl?"
The black-haired Joey's eye gave a visible twitch as she replied through gritted teeth,
"Yes, I am.
Never question my gender again."
"Ok, just checking!" Then the blue haired girl dashed off toward Cherrygrove,
leaving the other
Joey alone on the path with her dratini.
"Weird day, huh Daren?"
The dratini smiled brightly. "Dree!"
