Chapter 13: Bad Roller Coasters
It was just another boring day down underground and Joey was
flopped on the couch with nothing to do. Jackie was still mad at
her so she was slightly depressed. Her train of thought was how
to make Jackie happier.
She drifted off into thought and before long she was kicked back
into reality by Michelle jumping on the other side of the couch
and on her feet. She winced until Michelle got off then noticed
that Luke and Ira were with her.
Joey sat up strait on the couch and asked, "Sup you guys?"
"Er...." mumbled Ira.
Luke interrupted him. "We were wondering if you could take us
all to the Six Flags by Saffron City."
"Cause we're bored," finished Michelle.
Joey sighed. "Why should I?"
"You're the only one around here who seems to have money,"
replied Ira. "No body else does."
"I don't do roller coasters."
"Come on! Please?" This came from Michelle.
"What do I get out of this if I decide to take you," asked Joey.
Ira got down on his knees. "Anything you want!"
Joey grinned then told them what she wanted.
"NO WAY I'M LETTING YOU DRIVE MY MUSTANG,"
yelled Luke.
"Well I don't have to take you and I am the only one with money
around here..."
"Alright you win. But only this once!!!"
Joey smiled then got up from the couch. She held out her hand
and reluctantly Luke handed over the keys to his Mustang.
"Now I'm making this clear now that I'm NOT going on any
roller coasters got it?"
The other three nodded.
In a few minutes all four were on the road with Joey driving
Luke's red Mustang. She was looking very happy while Luke on
the other hand, wasn't. He was in the back seat with Michelle
and Ira was sitting up front.
It wasn't all that far from the forest where the HQ were so they
arrived in about an hour. Joey forced the others to pay the seven
dollars for parking then spent a long time trying to find a good
parking spot.
After parking Ira led the way to the front entrance to the park. It
was two hours after the park had opened so there wasn't a huge
ticket line. Joey stood in the line for a few minutes and then
bought four tickets.
"Now remember that I'm not going on any roller coasters," Joey
reminded them before handing them each a ticket.
"We know Joey. You've only told us like a million times,"
Michelle complained.
Both Luke and Michelle ran over to the gate and entered the
park and Ira, who noticed Joey was walking, grabbed her wrist
and dragged her over to the entrance. After getting into the park
Ira followed Luke and Michelle who seemed to know their way
around the park, dragging a complaining Joey along with him.
Luke walked up to the line of the first ride in the park and
looked at the coaster. It was really big. Ira caught up to him and
Michelle, dropped Joey, and also looked at the coaster.
"Looks fun," he said.
Joey finally recovered from being dragged. "You call that fun?"
Michelle turned to her. "You scared?"
"No way!"
"Then why don't you go on it with us?"
"I already told you I wasn't going to go on any roller coasters
today!"
"I think your chicken."
"Am not!"
"Then go on it with us or it'll prove you're a chicken."
Joey couldn't take being called a chicken. "Fine then I will!"
She ran up the ramp that led to the loading area. It was a
weekday so there were virtually no lines. The only wait was for
the front and the back but that was typical. All the other spaces
only had a few people in line.
Joey got in line to the place most to the back that didn't have a
line and Ira got in line after her. Luke and Michelle got in line
for the seats in front of them. Ira, who wasn't paying attention to
her and Michelle's argument, said, "I thought you weren't going
on any roller coasters."
"I wasn't but Michelle will eternally call me a chicken if I
don't."
"I see."
In a minute they were next in line. Joey was obviously scared
because she was shaking. Michelle turned to her. "You don't
have to do this you know..." she said.
"Yes I do cause your going to mock me about it. Now shut up
before I change my mind," snapped Joey and Michelle backed
away slightly.
The car stopped and the passengers of the previous ride got off
leaving the seats open to the next victims. Still shaking, Joey got
into the car and sat down pulling the lab bar down as far as it
would go. Ira sat down next to her and pulled down his lap bar
so it was about six inches away from his waste so he could get
good air time.
After he sat down her felt Joey grab his hand and hold it really
tight. He looked to her and saw she had her eyes shut really tight
and was still shaking.
"You do know the ride hasn't even started yet," he asked.
Joey only nodded then squeezed his hand tighter. He winced
from the lack of blood he was receiving to his fingers when the
ride finally did start.
As if to torture the terrified souls on the ride, the car slowly
climbed up the tall lift hill. To Joey who still had her eyes sealed
shut it seamed like an eternity until the ride reached the top of
the lift hill. It paused at the top for a brief second as if the car
itself was scared of what was below.
Michelle and Luke both raised there arms in excitement and Ira
held onto the petrified Joeys hand. With his free hand he held
onto the bar on the front of the car. Joey was still shaking and
before he had time to try and reassure her, Gravity decided it
didn't like the car standing at the top of the lift hill like that and
gave it a very hard push onto the twisting track that awaited it.
Of course for the first ride of the day Luke and Michelle had
chosen the one that went upside down seven times. The ride fell
down the first drop at an extremely high speed then turned and
headed into the first loop. Then the ride turned left then headed
into two other loops then broke for a few seconds before heading
into a double corkscrew where they took your picture. Then the
ride did this stupid thing where it kind of barrel rolled twice.
Finally the track dipped under the lift hill and headed onto the
final break path. The ride slowed and Joey stopped screaming
for the first time since the ride left the lift hill. The track turned
around and headed back into the loading station. After they got
off the ride Joey let go off Ira's hand. He shook it a bit to let the
blood back in.
On the way down the stairs Joey was latched onto Ira's neck in a
glompish fashion. She still didn't look very happy. At the
bottom of the stairs they had the TV screens where they showed
the pictures that they took of you on the ride.
With one look at her picture Joey let go of Ira and charged up
for one of her powerful thunderbolt attacks. Luckily, Michi hit
her over the head with her tail before she broke anything saying,
"Don't break the photo screen thingys. You'll get us into
trouble."
Joey sighed. "Right sorry."
The four walked out from the exit of the ride. Michi was about
to ask what ride they should go on next but Joey, being psychic,
stopped her before she could say anything.
"I went on a ride and it was hell for me so I hope you're all
happy. I'm not going on another ride and whoever wants to try
and force me on another will die a slow and painful death."
Luke, Michi and Ira cringed at this. "I'm going shopping for the
rest of the day so meet me at the car at closing k?"
The other three nodded and then watched Joey walk off. Luke
turned to the other two and asked, "What ride should we go on
next?"
"I dunno."
<Skip to Lukes P.O.V>
"So, what next?" I asked again.
For the second time, Michi and Ira said, "I dunno."
"And you say I'm hopeless," I mumbled. I pulled out a map of
the park, then examined it carefully. "Well, there's Rage which
is hyper coaster,"
"That one," Michi interrupted.
"Erm, okay." I had kinda expected that. I knew that mentioning
the word "hyper" would immediately catch her attention, which
was a mistake.
I looked at the map, the looked around at the rides. "According
to the map, Rage should be that one." I then pointed in a
direction and we all looked.
What stood before us was a massive structure of blue steel. It
was much higher than the ride we had been on already, and the
first drop was quite a bit steeper if that was possible.
We all glanced at each other, then ran off toward the ride. We
got in the line, which was quite long. As I was looking around,
something caught my attention.
Standing in line ahead of us was Joey. I laughed, because Joey
had been refusing to ride anything the whole time. I was about
to yell to her when I noticed the person standing next to her. It
was Feathers. I got it then.
After what seemed like hours, we climbed in the train that was
waiting in the station and pulled down the lap bars. The
operator gave us the typical "hands and arms" lecture as if we
were brain-dead or something, then the cars began to climb the
hill. It seemed to take a while, so I passed the time by poking
Michi. She and I got in a little poking war, and we eventually
gave up near the top of the hill.
I laughed, then poked Michi to get her attention. That was a
mistake, because she turned and smacked me in the arm. Even
though she didn't look like it, she could hit pretty hard and my
arm went numb.
"I was just trying to get your attention," I said, feeling the bruise
on my arm. I then picked up my water bottle which was sitting
between my feet. I looked behind me, then quickly squirted
some water over the edge of the car before anybody could
notice.
Michelle cracked up, and I could faintly hear somebody yell. I
glanced over the edge and saw that Ash was down there, looking
a bit wet. I pulled the top off the water bottle and quickly
dumped it all out, and moments later he got hit with it again.
Michelle and I were both cracking up by that time. We couldn't
quit laughing, but we quickly calmed down as we got to the peak
of the hill.
The car literally stopped as it reached the very top of the hill. I
had been observing the ride as we were waiting in line, and that
was NOT normal. I glanced back and could see someone
running up the steps toward the car.
After a few minutes they got to the last car in the train and began
talking to them, making their way up to the front. We found out
that the tow chain had broken. The car could be manually
pushed the rest of they way over the hill, but it would take a bit
of help from a few more people.
After a few more minutes, more of the workers we standing on
either sides of the train. There were a few handles on the train,
which were obviously just for moving the cars. However, the
train was meant to be moved that way when it was empty, which
is why they needed the extra people.
After a bit of coordination, they began to push the train forward.
The anti-rollback devices on the lift hill clicked past one by one,
and the tension was killing me. Eventually the train cleared the
last one. The workers gave the train one final push, then it
slowly crept over the hill, beginning the rapid descent.
The train hit the bottom of the hill and rocketed up the next one
going well over 100 MPH. After a series of more hills, sharp
banking curves, and a few even sharper switchbacks, the train
came to rest in the station.
We all staggered off the train and down the exit ramp. It had
been a good 30 minutes since Joey had gotten off the same roller
coaster, but she was still practically wrapped around Feathers.
He was one-of-a-kind, because he was an Anthro Pidgeot. We
all walked up to them and joined up again as one group.
