Episode 1: The Mysterious Goddess

     The Reikai Tantei team has just closed their last thrilling case and defeated the Four Holy Beasts. …And that’s about it… Extra Saga, eh? I wonder how they’re going pull this one off. I hope Yusuke dies again. And I hope he stays dead. And we don’t follow him in Reikai, because I’m getting tired of narrating this stupid story… Wait… There are plenty more real sagas, ne? And about twenty billion more fanfictions to do. Kami-sama… The narrator then started packing his suitcases.

     Koenma slammed his hands into his desk as he yelled at the TV screen in front of him. "Aohiki! At least stay in America, where I know it’s safe!"

     A bodiless figure seen only by Koenma yelled back at him. "You don’t know its safe anywhere, Oniisama. With this enemy, you don’t know where they might have steak-outs."

     "But we have to keep you safe somehow!" Koenma yelled as his large hat slipped down his forehead slightly.

     "Don’t worry. I can fend for myself, and I have Aoi-chan with me, too." The mysterious Aohiki replied. "Myuu!!" A small creature that was next to her arm squeaked in agreement. "Oh, and Mitsukai-chan…"

     "But, Aohiki…" Koenma tried futilely to stop her.

     "I’ve got to run, Oniisama, but I’ll talk to you later!" The screen then turned black as Aohiki got off. Koenma pressed the remote frantically.

     "Aohiki! Wait…! Grrr…. Get Botan on the line!"

     Down in Tokyo, Yusuke was walking home after ditching school.

     "Yusuke!" Botan called as she suddenly appeared out of nowhere in front of him. "We’ve got a new mission for you!"

     "Gaah! Botan!" Yusuke yelled at her as he jumped back. "You can’t just ‘appear’ in front of someone like that!"

     "This is urgent! Koenma-sama needs you to get the team together to protect Kiragi Aohiki-sama, Green Goddess of Wisdom."

     "What? Who?" Yusuke asked with a confused look on his face.

     "Kiragi Aohiki is her name. She is called the Green Goddess of Wisdom." Botan said, slightly annoyed.

     "Why do I need to protect her?" Yusuke replied as he turned and started to walk away. Botan started to fume. She raised her paddle and smacked Yusuke on the head.

     "Because Koenma-sama told you to!"

     Yusuke rubbed his head. "Fine! Quit it!"

     "Yo, Kuwabara. Would you come here for a sec.?" Yusuke called from behind a tree the next day.

     Kuwabara turned around and walked around the tree. "What do you want Urameshi?"

     "Look," Yusuke crossed his arms. "I’ve got a new mission, and…"

     "No way, Urameshi!" Kuwabara cut Yusuke off. "I nearly got killed last time!" He crossed his arms, and turned around.

     "That was your own fault. Look, all we have to do is baby-sit some goddess until some sort of danger is over."

     Kuwabara turned around and looked at Yusuke eagerly. "A goddess? As in a female god?!"

     "I don’t know!" Yusuke said with a slight sweat-drop. "Are you in or not? Koenma said he wants everyone who can to protect her."

     "I’m in! …Oro? What’s that?" Kuwabara said suddenly and went on the defensive. He looked around suspiciously.

     "What is it now, Mr. Sensitive?" Yusuke asked, not caring in the least bit. He crossed his arms and leaned against the tree.

     "Something really powerful… is watching us…" Kuwabara replied as he continued to look around.

     "What are you talking about? We’re the only ones here." Yusuke said as he closed his eyes to sleep.

     "Wrong, you’re not the only ones here." A voice said from behind them.

     Yusuke opened his eyes and jumped into an attack position. He stopped when he saw it was just a girl. The girl was glaring at him, and had long dark reddish-brown hair that was tied back. She was wearing their school uniform, but he had never seen her before.

     Another girl walked up next to her. She had long brown hair, which she wore in a high pony-tail. This girl elbowed the red-head in the side. "This is school after all!" She told them with a smile.

     Kuwabara scooted against a wall that was near the tree. "Eee…. Eep!" He squeaked as he looked at the glaring red-head.

     Yusuke looked nervous. "How much did you hear, and who the hell are you?!" He yelled at them. In return, the red-head glared harder at him, and the other one just smiled.

     "We’re the new exchange students from America. Nice to meet you." She continued to smile. "My name is Lee Hana."

     "Takai Mitsukai." The red-head said shortly. She then continued her glaring, and crossed her arms.

     Kuwabara eyed Mitsukai strangely. That’s not an American name… It’s Japanese…And she has strong reiki… He thought as a shiver ran through his spine.

     The red-head suddenly smiled. She looked completely different. "Thank you for noticing!" She said with her fingers up in a V shape.

     "What’s your problem!?" Hana suddenly exclaimed and started pounding her shoulder. "Don’t you ever learn?!"

     "I’m sorry! I’m sorry!" Mitsukai defended herself, though Hana’s punches seemed to not effect her at all. "I won’t do it again!"

     Kuwabara was just staring at Mitsukai and seemed to be at a loss for words. "What the…?"

     "What the hell just happened here?" Yusuke asked as he gave the two girls a funny look. Hana stopped beating up Mitsukai’s shoulder and smiled.

     "It was very nice meeting you, but we’re late for class! Thank you for your time!" She called as she grabbed Mitsukai’s hand and ran off.

     "What the hell?" Yusuke said as he stood there dumbly, looking confused. Keiko walked over to him.

     "Yusuke, were those the two new exchange students you were talking to?" She smiled, as she apparently thought it meant he didn’t frighten everyone away.

     "Yeah… I suppose…" He shrugged and prepared to walk out the front gate, but stopped when he saw Kuwabara drooling.

     "I think I’m in love… they were hot… the one with the tail…" Kuwabara said as he talked to himself.

     Yusuke sweat-dropped. "What tail?" Keiko looked at them weirdly. Kuwabara started to chant "hot…hot…hot…" Yusuke looked at Keiko suddenly. "Oh yeah, Keiko. We have a new case, okay?"

     She smiled. "Alright Yusuke. Just be safe okay?"

     "Anou… sure thing Keiko!" He smiled in a fake way.

     "Nothing like studying after school, ne?" Hana smiled at Mitsukai. They were in the library after school had let out, behind some bookcases, studying.

     Mitsukai gave Hana her normal glare. "We have to do ten times more studying here than back in the States!" She sighed and opened at book, and started flipping through it.

     "The Japanese are smart people. You know that is partly why I’m here. I have to keep an eye on them." She smiled and started writing notes.

     Mitsukai sighed again. "And I couldn’t let you come here with…" She looked around and leaned over to whisper in Hana’s ear. "...that enemy trying to get you."

     "I could have handled it myself. But, thank you for coming with me. I really appreciate it. How did you land the exchange program anyhow?"

     "It was simple. Have you forgotten already?" She looked bored with studying and closed the book.

     Hana smiled. "Oh yes, your past."

     "What about you? Didn’t you fail the spoken Japanese part?" Mitsukai asked with an evil grin.

     "I just froze up on the test, that’s all. I’m speaking Japanese pretty well now, aren’t I? There’s nothing like a teeny bit of magic to get to where you want to go!" She said with a slight giggle.

     "I prefer telepathy." Mitsukai said, not caring at all.

     "You used telepathy on the test?!" Hana's bag started to rustle. "Oro?" She pulled a small creature out of her bag. "Aoi-chan!" It was a small green frog. "What’s your problem? Can’t you see I’m studying? Here, you can stay on the desk. But only if you keep quiet and eat your… stuff" She set the small frog onto of the table they were working on.

     "You brought Aoi-chan to school?!" Mitsukai asked, her turn to be pissed off.

     "He stowed away!" Hana said in defense. "I found him during second period. It’s not like I could have done anything about it and its good to keep him around, in case trouble comes up… you know…"

     Kurama walked out of the shadows of a dark alleyway with Hiei following him. "We came as soon as we heard from Koenma that we have a new mission."

     "Yeah well…" Yusuke shrugged. "We have to protect some goddess." He looked at Hiei. "Since when did you take orders from Koenma?" he stuffed his hands in his pockets.

     "Hn." Hiei crossed his arms. "For your information, fool, if the Green Goddess was to get captured, it would be the end of all reality." He glared up at Yusuke.

     "Yes, yes." Botan agreed. Kuwabara was standing next to her.

     "So where do we start looking?" He asked Botan.

     "Looking? We don’t really have to go find this goddess, do we Botan?" Yusuke whined. Botan nodded, sweat dropping.

     "Koenma-sama said that the goddess was… anou… not fond of the idea of… anou… people protecting her…"

     "So we have to stalk her or something?" Yusuke asked incredulously.

     "Yes, how are we going to find her?" Kurama asked.

     Botan went from cowering from Yusuke to proud looking. "With this!" She pulled a round device out of her kimono. It looked like a compass with a tracking screen. She started fiddling with the dials. "It will log onto the goddess’ unique Reiki!"

     "Reiki? The goddess is… human?" Kuwabara asked, once again confused.

     "Yes. That is precisely what a goddess is. A unique case where a human, usually a girl, has powers almost like a being from Reikai. It’s not quite the same, but that’s the best I can explain it. Kiragi-sama is the strongest of these humans." She didn’t look up as she said all this. She just continued to turn various knobs and dials on the tracker.

     "That’s confusing." Yusuke sighed. "Can we just find her already?" He leaned against the wall.

     "That’s funny… it leads to your school’s library… Why would she be at your school?" Botan checked the dials and settings.

     "Why would someone want to hang out in a boring library?" Yusuke asked with sarcastic voice. Botan turned around and smacked him with her paddle.

     "She is the Green Goddess of Wisdom! But still…" She looked at the tracker again. Yusuke rubbed his head and glared at her.

     "Smart chicks are cool too…" Kuwabara said with a smile.

     "Hn. Can we get going now?" Hiei said impatiently.

     "Okay…" Botan sweat dropped and started walking in the direction of the school.

     "Myuu! Myuu!" Aoi-chan was squeaking, as he jumped up and down on the desk. Hana patted his head.

     "Yes, yes, Aoi-chan. I know something is wrong. It’s probably Oniisama’s boy. I met him earlier." Hana smiled down at Aoi-chan.

     "You mean that punk?" Mitsukai asked. "And why is Koenma-sama sending someone?" She crossed her arms.

     "He just wants to make triple sure I’m absolutely safe. I told him I was going to be here only a trimester, but Oniisama just won’t hear of it." Hana replied with a sigh.

     "Hm. I can protect you just fine, and you’re not a baby. It’s not like you’re completely defenseless. Oro?" She looked through the bookcase. "Someone is here. We should go now." She got up and gathered her stuff.

     Hana pulled Mitsukai back into her chair. "No, wait. It’s got to be the Reikai Tantei group. Can we play with them?" Hana asked eagerly.

     "Anou…" Mitsukai looked confused. "Sure, demo… how exactly are you going to…?" Her sentence trailed off as Yusuke walked into the library.

     "Yo! Anyone home?" Yusuke asked as he turned into their row. He walked over to where Hana and Mitsukai were sitting, studying.

     Hana looked up from the book she was pretending to read. She jumped up and bowed, pretending to be surprised. "G-greetings!"

     "Anou… Lee, was it? You haven’t seen anyone else studying here, have you?" Yusuke asked her, obviously not catching on.

     "Just me and Mitsukai-chan. I, uh, didn’t catch your name last time. May I ask what it is?" Hana smiled at Yusuke.

     "Urameshi Yusuke. You know that." Mitsukai answered her question.

     "Yes, but I wanted to hear it from him. I’ve heard a lot about you… Urameshi-san" She smiled again. Yusuke gave her a weird look.

     "What the hell are you talking about?" He asked. Hana just smiled.

     Mitsukai held up her hand and started counting off on her fingers. "Skips school. Gets in detention. Almost the lowest grades in the whole school. Wow, you are a delinquent." She crossed her arms.

     "But how… huh?" Yusuke continued to look confused.

     Kuwabara suddenly sprung out of nowhere and jumped in front of Hana and Mitsukai. "And you’ve heard of me too, ne? Kuwabara Kazuma! Worst thug in this whole area!" He grabbed Hana’s hands. Yusuke was on the verge of punching him.

     "Lowest grades in the school, gets in loads of fights, and loses every fight with Urameshi Yusuke. Yeah, we’ve heard of you." Mitsukai smiled evilly.

     "But that’s okay, Kuwabara-san!" Hana smiled with a slight sweat drop. Kuwabara smiled in his weird way. "I’m glad…"

     Hana smiled and tried to pull her hands out of his grip. Don’t screw up, Mitsukai-chan. There are yokai and a Reikai creature here. Try to keep as much of your power back as you can. Try to throw them off. Hana thought to Mitsukai.

     Mitsukai glanced sideways at her. I’m trying. Maybe we should stop? That Jagan eyed one suspects me.

     Hana looked surprised, but then continued to smile at Kuwabara. I didn’t even know he was here…I sensed him, but not his Jagan eye. I was trying to cover my power. Oh no! What if he sees my goddess mark, my tail?!

     Mitsukai stepped back and grabbed her bag. Let’s go, before they find us out. She smiled up at Kuwabara and Yusuke. "Well, it was nice to see you again, Urameshi-san, Kuwabara-san, but we must go." She walked over to Hana as Kuwabara let go of her hands. She handed Hana her bag.

     Yes, yes. Hana took her book bag from Mitsukai and turned back to Kuwabara and Yusuke. "I hope I see you two around school more often." She and Mitsukai then walked out of the library through a back door.

     "Yo! It’s Yusuke. So we have to find and protect some Goddess of Wisdom who doesn’t even want to be protected! And there are two new exchange students who are kind of odd… and I think Kuwabaka’s fallen for another girl. Baka. So, anyway, next we’ll catch this goddess, after much running. Damnit! Why do girls have to be so hard to help?! And we’ll figure out just who she and her mysterious friend are."
