Act I, Scene 4

Touya sighed and followed behind Vash and his good friend, Kensei, as they walked toward the Capulet household with five or six other part-goers.

"We are Montagues." He said to them. "Shouldn’t we apologize for intruding?"

"Such words are out of date!" Vash declared. "We won’t be scared away by those Capulets. We’ll give them a dance, and then leave."

Touya shook his head and stopped. "Hand me that torch." He grabbed the torch away from one of the party-goers. "Since I am so depressed, I will just hold the light."

Kensei swung his arm around Touya’s shoulders and yanked the torch out of his hand. "Nah, gentle Touya, we must have you dance!" He then spun Touya around so he twirled like a woman. Touya stopped himself and glared at Kensei.

"Not me." Touya said while he straightened his clothes. "You have dancing shoes with nimble souls." He crossed his arms. "I have a soul of lead, and that stakes me to the ground so that I cannot move."

Kensei tilted his head. "Anou... you’re walking now, you idiot."

Touya glared at him. "It’s a figure of speech, you idiot."

"And you’re sour because the one you love does not love you back." Kensei smirked.

Touya glared at him and Vash stepped between them. "Stop it you two!!"

"Alright, we must get to the party!" Kensei declared. "We are wasting our hikari!" ("No! The hikari’s wasting us!")

"I still think it is not wise to go." Touya said as he crossed his arms again.

"Why, may I ask?" Kensei said curiously.

"I dreamt a dream last night."

"Well," Kensei replied. "so did I."

     "What was yours about?"

"That dreamers often lie." Kensei smirked.

"In bed asleep," Touya smirked as well. "while they do dream things true."

"Ah yes, the Balance is not with you."

     "Balance?" Touya frowned.

"Yes, the Balance." Kensei struck a pose. "He is the overlord to all the worlds! And he has the horrid job of balancing them." He crossed his arms and nodded.

"But Kensei, wouldn’t the Balance just be another name for God?" Vash asked with a confused look.

Kensei put his hand on Vash’s shoulder. "I’m glad you asked that, Vash. No, the Balance is not god, though he is immortal."

     "The Balance is a guy?"

Kensei crossed his arms and nodded. "Why of course. Can you imagine how the worlds would be if the Balance was a woman?"

"But Kensei, what does the Balance do?" Vash asked again.

"A fine question, Vash." Kensei struck another pose. "The Balance, of course, balances the worlds. Which means he basically has to create a life when there is a death and vis versa. He also has to worry about weather patterns and unnatural disasters and such. And please remember," He crossed his arms and closed his eyes. "the Balance has to do this to every world in existence." He said, nodding again.

"What does that have to do with Hikaru not loving me?" Touya asked, getting really annoyed.

Kensei opened an eye and smirked. "Well there are two answers to that. Either, a: the Balance doesn’t like you, and wants to make your life an living hell; or b: he likes Hikaru and has made it so she will love no other man."

Touya glared. "Oh thank you, Kensei."

     Kensei bowed. "You’re welcome."

     Touya glared more. "Kensei?"

"Yes?" Kensei stood up straight and smiled.

     "Shut up."

"I’m done talking of the Balance." Kensei replied.

"Good, because we’re running late." Vash announced as they approached the house. "Super is over."

"Not running late. We’re too early. For I still don’t want to go at all." Touya said. Kensei and Vash each grabbed one of his arms and pulled him up to the Capulet household.
